Salt Glazed Stoneware Blacking Bottle

19th Century Stoneware in Fair condition.

SKU: 357 Category:

A rich tan coloured antique stoneware ‘blacking bottle’. A nice example of Victorian salt glazed pottery. These bottles traditionally contained blacking paste, used widely in the 19th century for the cleaning and polishing of boots, shoes, floors and doorsteps. The glaze is worn off one side but the original cork is intact. No manufacturers label is seen.
